Juan Llorens received his MS degree in Industrial
Engineer from the ICAI Polytechnic School at the UPCO University in
Madrid in 1986, Spain, and his PhD in Industrial Engineering and
robotics at the Carlos III University of Madrid, Spain in 1996. In 1987
he started his own company dealing with Artificial Intelligence applied
to Database systems (Knowledge Engineering SL). In 1989 the whole
company was sold to the European Multinational Advanced Software
Technologies and Dr. Llorens became the Marketing Director.
He joined the Carlos III
University of Madrid in 1992 and since 2003 he is Professor at the
Department of Informatics of the University. Dr. Llorens is the leader
of the Knowledge Reuse Group (KR), where research is being held on
computer based Reuse. In 1998 he was invited to teach at the Högskolan
på Åland (Mariehamn, Finland). Since 1998 he splits his educational
activities between both Universities. He is also the Academic Director
of the Instituto Universitario de Postgrado. Finally, he is member of
the ACM.
Dr. Llorens’ main reuse interest
is Software Reuse with intensification in information and software
representation, processing and retrieval. He teaches Software
engineering subjects in the Informatics and Information Science
graduateand post-graduate studies at the University. His current
research involves the application of Information & Knowledge
technologies, together with Software Engineering techniques towards
